Robbie is a Scottish filmmaker whose work spans high-risk documentary, poetic biography, and distinctive fiction. His cinema films have screened internationally and won festival acclaim and international prizes, and his tv work encompasses award-winning factual, drama and comedy. Trained at Columbia University Film School in New York and a graduate of the Eurodoc programme, Robbie has shot documentaries in Mali, Iraq and Afghanistan – each overseen by the BBC’s High Risk team – and organised expedition shoots for young adults in extreme mountain terrain, including the Cuillin Ridge and An Teallach.

Media Co-op for BBC ALBA and Creative Scotland. Feature doc about the rebellion against tolls on the Skye Bridge. Premiered Glasgow Film Festival 2011.
GAMERZ (2006) Writer / Director
Pure Magic Films for STV and Scottish Screen. Coming-of-age comedy set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons geeks. Premiered World Science Fiction Convention 2008 and released in UK cinemas by Guerilla Films. Nominated for the Méliès d’Argent European Fantasy Film Prize 2007. Played at film festivals worldwide including Fantasporto, Lund and Fantastic Fest (Austin, Texas).

ALONE IN VENICE (2021) Writer / Producer
Single half-hour drama based on the writings of Colm Tóibín, starring Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, Dallas Buyers Club). Directed by Lars Blumers. Produced under lockdown in Venice by Dulcimer Films, Terminal, FassB Film and 42.
DEAD RECKONING Screenwriter
Commissioned feature screenplay for a French/UK co-production with La Belle Allee and Les Films du Requin, adapting Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Ebb Tide” into a nautical thriller. Unproduced.
Other Work:
Robbie’s debut novel “Black Mamba” won the Scottish Book Trust’s Next Chapter Award in 2016.
